 A little about pearls: 
Pearls are made of an organic material secreted by a shellfish that lives in an oyster. When foreign grains (sand, etc.) penetrate it, the material envelops and covers the sand grain and forms an opaque and hard lump, usually round. The pearls set in the jewel are polished and look like perfect balls or elongated round shapes. There are also wild pearls that are common and popular, relatively inexpensive and have a wild shape that is not always characterized by a round structure. The pearl is considered a crystal due to its ability to transfer healing energy. It is formed within many types of oysters hence the great color range. The most common are the pearls in white and cream.
